Ahmed Wali Karzai is dead

At 11 am this morning, Ahmed Wali Karzai, the controversial half brother of the president and the most powerful man in southern Afghanistan, was shot dead in his home by an acquaintance. His killing will have seismic consequences for Kandahar's political landscape. For Foreign Policy magazine, I offer an analysis of what comes next for Afghanistan. A shorter version also ran in the Guardian today.
